 The department includes 15 employees: 2 professors (O.M.Klyhunenko, V.I. Snisar), 4 associate professors (docents)  - V.V. Yehalov, Y.O. Ploschenko, D.M. Stanin , V.A. Sedinkin, 5 assistants: 1 PhD  (D.A. Krishtafor), 2 young scientists (O.O. Yehorova, O.V. Pylypenko) and 2 laboratory assistants (N.P. Kozachuk and I.V. Sotula).

History.

The Anesthesiology and resuscitation Department of Postgraduate Education Faculty was established in 1986 at the Dnipropetrovsk City Hospital of Ambulance. The first head was Assoc. Y.S. Petrenko. The staff consisted of two docents (V.P. Tuz and V.V. Frolenko), 4 assistants and 2 laboratory assistants. Since September 1993 the Head of the Department has become Dr. Med. Science professor O.M. Klyhunenko. Under her guidance the department has developed new clinical sites: Municipal Institution " Dnipropetrovsk 6th City Clinical Hospital" of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Municipal institution "Dnipropetrovsk City Clinical Hospital №9» of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Municipal institution "Dnipropetrovsk clinical Ambulance association " of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Municipal institution "Dnipropetrovsk Region children's Hospital" of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Municipal institution "Dnipropetrovsk regional perinatal center from the hospital"  of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council and the clinic "Harvis." In 1997 at the department was created occupational group "Hiperbaryst" and in 2003 the department was renamed into the Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Therapy and Medicine of emergency conditions of Postgraduate Education Faculty. 

Training of interns in specialty "Anesthesiology and Intensive Care" has been launched since 1989, "Medicine of emergency conditions" - since 1999, "Children’s anesthesiology" - since 2000, "Family Medicine" - since 2002. Since 2006 at the department medical interns of 27 related departments has been trained for the license exam "Step 3". Simultaneously there have been held thematic improvement courses and certification for anesthetists, obstetricians and GPs.

  Prominent scientists of the department.

Professor O.M. Klyhunenko defended her doctoral thesis on "Mechanisms of adaptation to hard traumatic brain injury and ways of protections a brain from hypoxia" in 1991. In January 1993 she became a professor, in 2000 for the development and implementation of "Medical systems for mining victims in man-made accidents and catastrophes" she was awarded as one of authors whith the State Prize of Ukraine in science and technology. In 2009 she became a Knight of the Order by Princess Olga of III degree. The author of more than 570 scientific papers, including 13 monographs, 6 books, 5 textbooks, 6 inventions. A member of the specialized scientific council D 08.601.01, a member of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Ukraine and Dnepropetrovsk region, a member of the European Association of Anesthesiologists, a member of the editorial board of scientific journals "Pain, anesthesia and intensive care", "Emergency conditionals medicine", "Ukrainian Journal of extreme medicine by Mozhaev". Under the  O.M. Klyhunenko’s guidance have been defended 3 doctoral and 12 master's thesis, also are being planned and written 3 doctoral and 5 masters theses.

Professor V.I. Snisar has worked at the department since 2000. In 2004 he became decan of Postgraduate Education Faculty. Member of the specialized scientific council D 08.601.01, Board Association of Anesthesiologists of Ukraine and Dnepropetrovsk region, a member of the editorial board of scientific journals "Issues in Pediatric Surgery and Anaesthesiology" (Russia), "Acute and emergency conditions in medical practice." Under Professor V.I.Snisar’s guidance of have written 1 doctoral and 9 master's theses have been written, also 2 doctoral and 3 master's works are being planned and written.

The most important scientific achievements.

Until 2004 the main scientific direction of the department was connected with the scientific school by a corresponding member of NAS and AMS of Ukraine Professor  L.V.Usenko and devoted to the problem of "Development and optimization of methods of intraoperative and postoperative anesthesia, intensive care, including using non-hemohlobin carrier of oxygen - perftoran, at the critical states of various origins". Since 2004 members of the department have been carring out independent research: "Organ protective technologies in anesthesia, intensive care and emergency conditions for patients of different age groups at the prehospital and hospital stages" (state registration №0113U006504), which leaders have been Professors O.M. Klyhunenko and V.I. Snisar.

During the research have been proved organ protective properties of sevoflyuran anesthesia during caesarean section (O.A. Volkov), revealed the presence of anti-inflammatory action of low molecular weight heparin (O.S. Kozina), local anesthetics (V.V. Dotsenko), NSAIDs (O.V. Liashchenko, O.Y. Muryzina). The expediency to limit the total volume of replenishment obstetrical hemorrhage by reducing displays sponsored (V.A. Sedinkin), the ways of forming a syndrome of acute gastric damage in abdominal surgery and methods of their correction has been learnt (A.A. Pavlov), organ protective intensive therapy in surgical treatment of severe burns (O.Y. Sorokina) and with multiple trauma have been proved (N.V. Matolinets). The role of the ductus arteriosus in the formation of bronchopulmonary dysplasia of infant has been found and developed ways of their correction (I.O. Anikin, Obolonskiy I.O.), have been developed anesthesia for children with organic lesions of the central nervous system (V.V. Sklyar), has been optimized the mechanisms of sponsored in infants and have been revealed ways of their correction (D.A. Shkurupiy). 

 National and international awards.

26.10.2000 at the Ukraine exhibition of educational materials ( Kyiv), Prof. O.M. Klyhunenko was awarded an honorary diploma for the first place in the category "Dictionaries and Reference" for the participation in the book "Neurotraumatology." 31.08.2002 p. the Department took part in the exhibition-fair "Book World -2002", where it won the prize "Silver Nestor the Chronicler" by "Health" publishing ( Kyiv), and took the first place in the competition "books experience of Ukraine" in the nomination "The best academic book." for the textbook "Surgery of Childhood". In 2006 prof. O.M.Klyhunenko and ass. O.V. Kravetz at Ukrainian exhibition of educational materials ( Kyiv) took the second prize in the category "Training manuals and innovative technologies in education" with the books "Intensive therapy of bleeding" and "Intensive therapy of burn disease." 26-28 October 2006 at the IIIrd exhibition-presentation ( Kyiv) prof. O.M.Klyhunenko was awarded an honorary diploma of the 1st degree "For long years creative teaching work for the innovation development of education in Ukraine."

In 2011 three-volume textbook "Surgery" in the creation of which 4 members of the department took part, was awarded with the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology and approved by the Ministry of Health and Education of Ukraine as a basic textbook for higher educational institutions of III-IV accreditation levels.

December 28, 2011 prof. O.M. Klyhunenko end co-authors were awarded the Diploma of the Presidium of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine for the monograph "Stress damage to the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract".

 Publishing.

Professors of the department independently and in collaboration with teachers of other universities have created 9 textbooks (including - 5 basic), 18 teaching aids and 51 guidelines, which are regularly used by doctors, students and interns at the independent preparation for the workshops and seminars.

Independently and in collaboration with researchers of other departments there have been published 15 books and more than  1,000 articles. The research work results results have been highlighted at the international (including Euroanaesthesia) and national congresses, symposias, conferences, in 9 information leaflets, 51 methodical recommendations, 6 patents and 5 inventions.

  Advances in teaching practice.

Two computer labs, two teaching classrooms, equipped with video library and educational literature, four teaching classes with dummies have been created for teaching. Since 2014 members of the department, one of the first in Ukraine, have started to conduct objective structured clinical examination by the OSCE method (Objective Structural Clinical Examination) for interns-anaesthesiologists. In the UK, since 90s the OSCE has been included to the final part of the exam in anesthetics (Royal Colledge of Anaesthetists). During the exam practical and theoretical skills of interns are evaluated at 7 examing stations. At each station there are 2 teachers. At the majority of stations the exam is taken whith the help modern real dummies and equipment for anestesiology (videolarynhoskop, breathing contours, endotracheal tubes, larynheal masks), the assessment is carried out using global rating scale, which allows to assess accurately interns’ knowledge and skills compliance to global qualification requirements for a physician anesthesiologist.

In just 30 years the department taught more than 450 interns and 6000 medical students, 3 PhD students, 3 masters, 27 national medical residents, and since 2015 the department has trained foreign medical resident. 

 Significant advances in medical work

Since 1991 O.M. Klyhunenko has been the main Specialist of the Department of Health of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration in "Anesthesiology and Intensive Care." The treatment of critical patients of all ages and anesthetic intervention in various operations have been conducted in accordance with protocols MoH of Ukraine and modern equipment. During last 10 years there have been introduced introduced more than 60 methods of examination and treatment. The department annually performs more than 100 advisory visits through the air ambulance, conducts the implementation of programs of the Association of Anesthesiologists of the region and intermittent courses. The department also took part in the aftermath of such industrial accidents and disasters as the Chernobyl accident (Assoc. Yehalov V.V.), blast furnace explosion in Dneprodzerzhinsk (1993), tram accident in Dneprodzerzhinsk (1996), etc. Since 2014 Damage Control Resuscitation strategy for affected ATO has been developed and implemented. 

Other activities

Educational work among doctors and interns is conducted both during the training process, and outside the institution. It includes discussions on various topics, theaters attendence and museums holding of the "Days of ether anesthesia," teaching school children how to give the first aid, etc.

The department has made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian anesthesiology, intensive care and emergency conditions medicine. Having extensive experience and potential, it has been continuing to improve all the areas of work.
